    okay so if it were to have the "s1 k2tog psso" would it become just "s1 p2tog psso"? or is it more complicated?

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson День тому

      It would be p2tog, return the result to the left hand needle, pass the 2nd st over the decreased st, then pass that result back to the right hand needle. You have to think about which stitch will be on top on the reverse side, and in which orientation. Montse Stanley's book, The Knitter's Handbook is a really good one for laying out every sort of decrease, how to mirror it, and how to do it from the purl side.

    I recently got fed up with repeatedly being unhappy with yarn purchases, loved the yarn, hated it on myself. I was buying petty yarn, but the colors looked terrible on me. I took a few days to research my color ‘season’ and am now only purchasing clothing and yarns in my season. I haven’t been unhappy about any of my purchases since.

    Gosh Roxanne, I planned to do this neck and shoulder shaping on a Martin Storey design I am working again (I frogged the first two finished pieces) because I just did not like the stair step. My dyslexia was in full force this past two weeks so I had shelved it and schedule two Musselburgh hats instead. This morning my brain finally lined up the logistics and the geometry and I made the decision to look at your videos to see what you have in this technique just to verify my own conclusions. Spot on Roxanne! Thank you for the video of my brain’s visual 😊👍🏼

    Great video and I am planning on doing it today. However stitches have a right and wrong side, so do I just turn and knit across?

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson 4 дні тому

      You don't *have* to turn the work to correct the mistakes, as long as the sts are worked correctly for the side that is facing you. For example, if you're fixing a span of stockinette sts, you can keep the RS facing for all the rows, and work them all as knits for every row. Whatever is easiest for you.

    Can tubular casting be used in mobious and brioche knitting together?

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson 4 дні тому

      Moebius knitting is cast on in a way that allows/causes the knitter to work out from the starting point in both directions simultaneously, so there is no edge, tubular or otherwise.

    Hello Roxanne! Thanks for your very informative video. I always enjoy watching your titorials - they're clear and easy to follow. I do however have a problem which I'm hoping you can solve for me. I knit a lot of kids' hats with normal needles, (now knitting for a charity bazaar) and no matter what technique I use, I don't like the seam, so I'm hoping to finally manage to knit them with cirular needles. However, I like to work my ribbing with a knit-purl and the rest in stockinette. I like to work my knit stitches from the back, passing the yarn over the needle as opposed to the standard knit stitch which is under, thus the stitch becomes twisted! The problem is that with knitting in the round, you're working only one side of the project, and my knit stitches don't turn out how I want them (twisted). Is there any way I can work the round on both sides...?

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson 5 днів тому

      YOu can control whether the resulting knit or purl is twisted based on how the stitch is mounted on the needle, and how you enter the stitch. I have a video on unintentionally twisted stitches, but it explains how to intentionally twist or not twist your sts, to get the effect that you want. ua-cam.com/video/GXvNxPjsjZI/v-deo.html

    My mother passed away last month and I found a lopi sweater that she had been knitting years ago before she got Parkinson’s. Unfortunately, the sweater and all its accompanying yarn were in a musty room in the back of the basement. I’m hoping I can salvage all the balls of wool and the completed part of the sweater so I can finish it. This video gives me hope. Thank you.

    When a lovely German lady taught me the long tail cast on she didn’t use a slip knot, so, I never have. What I have not done before is to twist that first stitch or to make that first stitch the last in the round. That’s neat and I’m certainly going to have a go. One trick I do for almost all cast on when using the cable method is to cast on two extra stitches, then drop the first two stitches that were cast on. That eliminates the knot and makes for a neater beginning. Dropping two stitches is easier than dropping one. Thank you for this.

    Hi Roxanne, slightly off-topic but maybe not if you are posting about shaping: I'm fascinated by the pleating that occurs with the stitch pattern in the Edwardian sweater. I've been experimenting but I haven't yet achieved the level of elasticity shown in the sweater. I love the way the fabric gathers itself together into pleats as soon as you release a stretched part of it. I'd love to understand more about how this happens and how it's affected by gauge and yarn weight. Many thanks.

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson 5 днів тому

      The amount of pleating the fabric relaxes into as it hangs depends on what might be holding the pleats together at the top and bottom. It's very willing to stay pleated in the section where I worked k3tog, k4tog over and over, and where there is ribbing below it. It easily lies flatter in places where nothing is encouraging it to pull in, because the stitch count hasn't changed.

    I wish I had found this a year ago… I had a lovely cable sweater going where I ended up frogging the whole thing because of several cables being crossed the wrong way (in a line, like I just forgot which direction I was going for all repeats 💀) I was probably 15 hours into the sweater when I noticed and I let it sit for a while, but I ended up just pulling everything out and turning it into a blanket instead
